Grim Reaper

This is the giant Grim Reaper on 3rd in Ballard/Greenwood. They put it up every year, but this is the first time I've seen it.

Aurora Ave. N

Some cell phone pics from a cloudy day on Aurora Ave. N.

Update on the Aurora Rents elephant: It's been restored but remains grounded until funds become available to restore its perch. I suspect that the altitude of the elephant will be a lagging indicator of the state of the economy.

Python's Foot

I've been immersed in the fantastic 6-part IFC documentary, "Monty Python: Almost the Truth - The Lawyer's Cut."

After googling around the internet, I stumbled upon this piece of trivia. The famous foot from the opening credits comes from the lower left corner of this painting, Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time.

The painting appears quite lusty at first glance, but it gets weirder the closer you look. Cupid, on the left, is the son of Venus, center. And if that embrace doesn't appear inappropriate enough, this close up seems to show that Venus is about to slip him the tongue. That crazy Renaissance.
